Religious groups give hand to Gulf Coast
How quickly we forget.
Last summer, the country was stunned by the devastation on the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. People held fund-raisers and sent clothing and supplies. They opened their homes to those displaced by the flooding. They donated millions to the American Red Cross.
But not even a year later, who's helping now? The religious community, mostly.

Mountain View Lutheran Church in Ahwatukee Foothills, Mission del Sol Presbyterian Church in south Tempe, Red Mountain Community Church in east Mesa and Grace United Methodist Church in Mesa are only a few houses of worship among hundreds nationwide leading much of the rebuilding in the area, clergy members and volunteers say.
